A media networked drive?

I'm looking for a external hard drive to share my ripped DVDs to my home, instead of moving all of the disc and potentially damaging them i ripped them all to the computer and their taking up some space on my pc, these movies are shared locally through windows media centre, to 2 xbox 360's, 1 laptop and 2 desktops pc's, ive been hearing around you can buy an external that shares the media without having to keep my computer running 24/7
