1) Weight: dunno, haven't tried an 848.
2) Shocks: works for me. I'm not a full time track junky and I'd rather master the bike first than put all the high tech bits and somehow think I'll be able to put awesome lap times.
3) Ride position: I came from an 06 R1. The position is different, but not punishing. You get use to it. If it makes you feel any better, the R1 stock seat use to crush your nuts when going over any slight bump....not a good feeling. Good thing someone found a seat mod for it. For the Duc, it's really the low handle bar position that gets you. Just squeeze the tank with your legs more.
4) Exhaust heat: Coming from the R1, it's no different. All underseat exhausts are gonna be butt/thigh burners.
5) Traction Control: Dunno, never experienced it on my bikes cuz they don't have it.
6) Clutch sound: That's the unique beauty of it.
7) New model: Every 2 is about when everyone does some change to their model lineup
8) Theft: I'm not too worried, but I don't go browsing high crime areas. If someone wants your bike, they'll take it anyways; no different than a car. All kinds of cars and bikes are stolen daily.
