A little help with PHP error messages?

What do these error messages mean?

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';' in /home/a7542817/public_html/New_member.php on line 31

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home/a7542817/public_html/Login.php on line 83

And I tried adding the [ and ; to those two errors but they still came up errors
