A little fuzzy on the iPhone?

I was thinking about getting an iphone and i live in Canada so i would go with fido. The plan i was going to get was $65 a month with unlimited text evenings starting at 7 to 7 Am free, 350 minutes and a 1g Data Transmission. So what is data transmission? Is that downloading apps, music, movies ect off of iTunes or is that using the internet like email facebook, youtube?
