When is a lie okay? People make all excuses for lying, but that doesn't make it right. When is a lie a good thing? As you can see above, lies come in many disguises and for many reasons. It doesn't always necessarily benefit the person who lies, but it is still a lie. If you lie to spare a friend's feelings, is that not still a lie? And when the friend finds out about the lie? Isn't that apt to make you worse than just a liar? You've also breached a trust. Lies come in many disguises, but no matter how well intended, it's still a lie.
I was mostly raised in a French Catholic home and was taught that all lies are sins and against God. If I were to write here that I had never uttered a lie, then I would most definitely be a liar; as would anyone else who chose to say those words. What exactly is the loophole we manage to wriggle through to justify to ourselves and to others that our lie was okay? But before answering, remember, 'the road to hell was paved with good intentions.'
