A-level Photography...?

I'm not too sure if the sixthform that i am going to will be providing cameras. When you started college/sixthform did they provide SLR and digital camera's at the beginning of the course?

I've been wanting to buy a nikon or pentax camera but i'm not exactly having any lucky in finding one that is affordable for me. Should I buy a simple camera for now as i am starting sixthform next week or will they provide a camera for a few weeks and then expect us to use our own?
 
It's been many years since I was at school but I remember that there was always a limited amount or SLRs for students to use. I imagine that the school will have some, but not many for students to use.

I'm not sure what kind of price range you are thinking about for 35mm SLRs but you could easily pick up a second hand 35mm SLR of eBay complete with 50mm f/1.8 lens for around £20-70. I recommend looking at an Olympus OM20, 30 or 40, Pentax Spotmatic or K1000 or Canon AE-1 Program or A-1. All of which will be perfectly suitable for your course.
