I bought my last American car in 1986. It was a Buick LeSabre and it fell apart in less than 50,000 miles. I have a 1995 Toyota Avalon that has 226,000 miles on it an still runs great and I get 29mpg.
Soon the were building cars that no one wanted. There was a time that GM built the same car for three labels and only changed grilles, taillights and interiors..Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiacs were the same car with only ornaments different basically..Ford did the same thing with their Ford and Mercury lines...Since I never paid attention to Chrysler, I have no clue as to what they did
Our intrusive federal government began telling manufacturers what needed to be on their cars adding cost to the vehicles.
The UAW added more cost through wages and benefits..did you know that the American car companies pay workers not to work? Yup thank the UAW for that one.
And now a Social Worker who has never held a job in his life is telling the car companies what to do it and how to do it.
