A Few Quick Dragonball Z - Majin Buu Saga Questions

Hiya!

I'm enjoying watching Dragonball Z on DVD for the first time (I love season sets of my favorite TV shows) and have finally gotten into the Majin Buu Saga. But it's not like the other sagas at all, IMO... It's like the "Star Trek: Voyager" of the Dragonball franchise (would that make GT the "Enterprise" of the Dragonball franchise? )

Anyway, did I misunderstand, or for most of the Majin Buu saga (after he, Piccolo and Gotenks escape from the Time Room all the way to near the series finale) was everyone on Earth dead, or absorbed by Majin Buu, except for a few Z fighters, Hercule, and that dog? I noticed a long, long stretch there (like 100+ episodes!) where there were very few characters at all... because everyone else was dead, including virtually all the Z fighters and their frienRAB.

Also, is it true that Akira Toriyama originally (1) wanted the series to end with the Freiza saga, but (2) reluctantly went ahead with the AndroiRAB/Cell saga, only to end up being happy with the results and wanting the series to end there; but, (3) under continued pressure/offers from the studio he worked for, he went ahead with the Majin Buu saga - but was determined to make this the final saga of the show, so he attempted to make Majin Buu as ridiculous as possible (a body like pink bubble gum? one of his major attacks is to turn people into food and eat them? etc.) but by then the Dragonball franchise was so popular, people still went for it. (Ironic! LOL)

Finally, am I the only person who watches this show and thinks to myself, "This is the Japanese version of Justice League! Goku = Superman! Capsule Corp = 'Batman', etc."

Yes, Super Buu did a special genocide attack with one energy blast for each human.

However, Tien and his buddy did survive because they're awesome.

There were rumors where Akira wanted Gohan to succed Goku at the end of Z after the cell saga, but was pressured because everyone liked goku . Anyway I think he wanted for Z to be Gohan's story but ended up with goku again

I think it's more along the lines of Toriyama planned on Buu being the final saga but he decided to have some fun with it by taking Dragonball back to it's comedic and mystical roots after a long period of pure seriousness and Scifi.

Yes. Early on in 'Season Nine' Majin Boo kills everyone on Earth with a ki blast, save for those at the Sanctuary, Mr. Satan, Bay (the dog), Tenshinhan, and Chaozu. After Gotenks and Piccolo escape the Room of Spirit and Time they learn Boo ate everyone at the Sanctuary, leaving on they, Ten, Chaozu, and Mr. Satan (plus his dog) alive. Later, Son Gohan returns, as do Son Gok

Justice League? Hmm... I don't recall a single character in Justice League that relies on Superman to do anything especially if they can do it themselves. (I still have to see JLU) As far as I know everyone in DBZ is so hellbent on relying on Goku so much till it just made the whole cast of DBZ look weak. (And that's what's really keeping me from watching DBK. Putting up with all that again...) Piccolo went from being a BA to another version of Krillin minus the whole comedic relief.

Some things you just gotta learn to let go.

Well, let's see now:

Against the Saiyans: they all trained their asses off, but still got slaughtered.
Against the men of Freeza: They were waaaay out of their league, so they spent six day trying to avoid trouble for, yes, Son to arrive. Even then, they still had to fight for their lives. Helping Gok

Goku was a total jerk in the Cell Saga. Take the freakin Senzu bean, beat Cell, and DON'T abandon your wife for the 33rd time.

Yes its True Toryama planned to end DBZ at the Freiza saga...But decided to continue. (Thankfully)

Also......Majin Buu Rocks!! (I wish I could turn people into candy)

and DBZ is extremly popular because its an awsome series its funny creative action packed , and at times cheesy to the point its Cool. Not to mention Goku is the Chuck Norris of Anime! (albit an uneducated one.)

Also FYI: DragonBall GT wasn't made by toryama...So you don't have to watch that.

All those things are understandable, Jacob and, truly the only saga I can really forgive the reliance of Goku is the Saiyan saga. And even then, I'm not so sure I can exclude that either. All the "we have to wait for Goku to get here" or "If only Goku were here".. Stuff like that just pisses me off to no end. I rather characters not talk or, not butt in at all if they're not going to back it up. (Especially when they know that they're no match.)

I'm aware of this as well. However, I do recall hearing Trunks (Android/Cell Saga) mentioning something about "We should wait for Goku to get better." Like he has say over everything or something. X_X (I'm getting worked up just thinking about it. Woosah) So I'm not just aiming at humans. Honestly, Vegeta really was the savings grace of the series for me (I think... Tien was too.. I don't recall him ever relying on Goku. I can only remeraber him always going out with a bang), but Movie 8 completely ruined him imo.

I don't really have much to say about this... But if he planned for the series to run that long then whose fault is that?

But as I've stated, I don't care what's the situation. Don't trash talk or, even step up if all the character(s) in the long run are just going to play the "We need _______" card in the end.

Oh come now. Surely we're not going to get bent out of shape for spelling names wrong?

Edit: Let's not misunderstand though. I'm not bashing nor attacking the series by any means. (At least that's not my intentions) DBZ is what got me started in anime (Rurouni Kenshin was the hooking point though.). It's just that after adapting to more anime series and, becoming more fond of other things besides fighting (That's all I really looked at DBZ for, honestly.) such as characters... And then trying to come back to where it all started I realized DBZ did a lot of things that I can't stand now. And the reliance factor is one of the main factors.

Again, I don't believe a confirmed ending at the Freeza arc is ever made. Not in interviews, not in guide books.

Also, Akira Toriyama did designs for DBGT (i.e. he designed Goten and Mustache Vegeta). Also of note, I believe Toriyama is on record saying he enjoyed DBGT (I enjoy some of it too), but for the most part I agree GT was a letdown.

Well, it was hardly out of character. Pointing to the end of the 23rd Tenka'ichi, the Saiyan arc, the Namek arc, etc. etc. Son values fighting more than he does his family and frienRAB...or the entire planet, if he was willing to allow Vegeta and Freeza to both live.

I'm not positive on this, but Mark is either a favorite of his, or the favorite of his.

Trunks was advocating that they all team up together. Why not wait a little while for Son to be at full strength when the Artificial Humans are bending them over backwarRAB?

Movie Eight ruined who, Vegeta? Rarely would I ever advocate the films as ever being more than fifty minute "let's see Gok

Though, I do enjoy the Buu saga, I still find it very pointless. It really have nothing to do with the Dragonballs at all. Same goes with Cell. (Even though I love that Saga too.)

Even though its a rumor right now Toriyama was about to end the series a lot sooner. But, there are some signs in the series that the rumors could be true.

I always liked the Majin Buu saga out of Majin Buu, Fusion, and Kid Buu, The Fusion Saga is my favorite. I liked the whole Z sword training and Gotenks is my favorite character. Everything about the Fusion Saga is great IMO. I want to own all three of them, and I have a few of the single dvRAB already (all of the episode with Gotenks lol), but I cant wait for the "Dragon Box" releases to fill in the remaining episodes.

I meant it in the "a group of superpowered humans and aliens that defend the Earth from global or galactic threats" way. Though you're right, everyone else on the "Z Team" would try and fail to defeat the bad guy, until Goku showed up and showed everyone else how it was done.
