I'm thinking about joining the National Guard or Active Army after gaining 19cr at a local college. Now, a couple of my questions are will having more credits actually place me at a higher rank when finished with training? I read that having 24cr would start you at pv2. Secondly, I live in Tampa, FL, and I'm looking at Human Intelligence Collector, Intelligence Analyst, and Linguist and possible POS's. Any idea where I'd be shipped for Basic and/or AIT? Lastly, I've been dating somebody for a long time, and if I do join, I'd like to marry him before I get shipped. That being said, I keep hearing about sign-on bonuses for National Guard, but I know through family that Active Army has pretty good family benefits. What should my overall plan be if I do go through with this? I've heard a few people say serve a year in NG, and then serve a term for Active Army.
Anyways, just looking for some overall info. More than welcome to hear from active/retired soldiers! Thanks!
I am waiting for the actual GED paperwork back (I finished and passed), but I'm going to a local community college for general ed, and 19cr is the required to start RN courses. I'm considering going for a CNA, which I believe would be around 30cr, which might be enough for pv2, if I did decide to join. I do want to go to school for RN, but I've always wanted to join the military, most of my family is military, but I wouldn't mind being one of the first women to serve.
Yes, I will most likely go speak with a recruiter when I get the chance as well, thanks for the answers so far. =)
Also, since I forgot to mention, I HAVE thought about joining as Medical Logistics, Health Care, or Mental Health as second choice behind Intelligence.
