A few questions about dieting and exercising?

Well, I am a 14 year old girl, looking to loose a little bit of weight.
Nothing seems to work for me. Either, I get on a diet and I cant keep up with it and end up overeating or something, or I actually keep up with it but end up loosing no weight.
My exercising hasn't been doing much good either.
I have gained a little bit of muscle, which isn't bad, but I would like to loose weight, and then tone my body, and its not working.

So I have a few questions:

-Out of curiosity, do the diet pills work? Only the ones that curb your appetite and make you feel less hungry,
-What is a good successful diet? What has worked for you? How much did you loose?
-How could I stick to a diet? Are their any tips you can share?
-What exercises should I be doing to lose weight, and which ones to gain muscle? Have they worked for you?
-How do I stop eating at midnight and two in the morning? I know its not healthy but I always feel more hunrgy then, and I never have time to eat breakfast?
-Tomorrow I am going on a four day trip, and we are going to be staying in a hotel, what are some healthy snacks I could bring that wont go bad on the 5 hour bus ride?
- Is it more healthy to drink diet soda then regular soda, because I ONLY drink diet soda.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the main places that I want improvement are in my sides, which are a bit chunky, my thighs, and a little off the tummy.
