A debate about white lying and lying?

My friends and I had an argument about lying. My argument is if a person doesn't ask about its specificity, and you answer the question, you're not lying. My friends say a white lie is a loop hole around a lie.

Mind you, she ask that you do not take a ride with a friend and you did.

If your mom ask you if you are home. You reply "Yes!" Conversation is over. Did you lie to your mom?

I think not because all your mom ask is if you are home. And you are truthful. You didn't lie. If she asked in specificity, like if "are you home and did you take the ride home from a friend."

Friends think it is a white lie.

What do you think? Lying in general or or not lying.
They say a white lie is also a lie. So lying in general or not lying.
