1. I hope you don't mind the heat. Death Valley, California provides 85% of the world's supply of this element.
2. Cound your beads. Metal oxides dissolve in a molten bead of one of my compounds to give characteristic colours which can be used to identify the metals.
The elements are both out of the first 20 on the Periodic Table.
Any guesses?
