A cell phone for a 7 year old? unlimited calls. Any thoughts

My friend wants to buy his daughter a call phone to stay in communication with her; now that she moved 100 miles away, the 7 year old has limited contact with her dad. He's looking for something not to expensive. (unlimited calls)

Depends on the area though. If your friend's daughter is still within a local zone, then he can go for $15 public mobile unlimited local talk plan. However, if she is out of local zone, my suggestion is to get the $15 Wind mobile clever plan if you friend has an wind mobile too, because Wind to Wind call will be always unlimited Canada wide.

Be advised that none of the above plans come with voice message. Public Mobile plan does not come with caller id too, however Wind Clever does.

Why not get her a laptop with a nice webcam or w/e? Unless it needs to be mobile, I think that is a much better solution, provided they have internet.
