I'm looking for a book using Johannes Vermeer's painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring" as it's cover. I'm not referring Tracy Chevalier's novel (named after the painting, creating a back-story to it, later made into movie). This novel is historical fiction (quite possibly young adult) and is set in a Norse (Viking) culture. I can only remember a bit of the beginning. It starts with the protagonist, a young woman, who is chosen as a sacrifice for the upcoming funeral of the recently deceased local king-chief. But instead her grandmother takes her place and she is able to escape. I can't remember any thing else. I won't be posting this if I hadn't tried to find it on my own, I've spent several hours on various occasions trying to find the name of the book or author. Any help anyone can offer will be most appreciated. Thank you!
