996 & 1098

999 is 'ahead of its time'.

The 1098 looks like the natural progression of the 996 to be sure.

The 999 looks so different it looks like what they would go to to be different.
And it failed.

So yes, they went back to a popular design and it saved their arse.

I think you may have done permanent damage when you rode on the 996 to think the 1098 is comfortable(if it's anything like the 848).

i just got done about 800 miles over two days of riding this past weekend and wow my wrists are sore! butt and cajones ok tho'.

a sport tourer the duc superbikes are not.

Man, the 1098 is NOTHING like the 848.

They don't even look the same.

And everybody knows how much better the 848 is than the 1098.

I can barely ride my 1098 to the shop to get a pint of milk without getting a sore arse.

LMAO!!!!! After riding that 996 my balls got pushed back about 3 inches, so you might be right. My wrists haven't bothered me yet, maybe I'll find out when I do that ride to Glacier Park with my Dad next year......yeah right, LMAO!!!!!!!

You're absolutely right on the first 3 points.
Being a road cyclist and regularly spending 4-6 hours on a road bike, i think like mram has damaged his wrists, i have damaged my arse as the hardest of motorcycle seats seem plush in comparison to my bicycle seat.

Hrm, thanks for lining them up so clearly, they are amazingly similar, clearly the 1098 had a serious eye for the 916. Which of course is a good thing!

The 996, in my eyes at least, is still the best looking bike Ducati has ever produced. As far as discomfort, I can only offer this: Heli bars and a Sargent seat help. Not as much as you'd like, but the difference is significant.

Actually it is more of an evolution from 998 (the final version of 916 generation). Hence why Ducati insisted on the designation of 1098 and 848 despite them having actual displacement of 1099cc and 849cc.

It is to dissociate (disassociate?) them from the 9 series (i.e., 999 and 749)
