I have a 99 honda civic ex with 129k on it. I bought it with 124k a year and a half ago and at that time the light was green...and it was green for about a year then it started to go orange. Then i noticed in the past couple of days the light is now completely red and i cant think of why.. its an automatic too...any help would be appreciated.
well i dont really know what the last guy did with it...you think if i took it to a place with a diagnostic they would tell me what i need?

it means you need an oil change and this is the procedure that should be done after every oil change
1. Put key in
2. Hold down the trip button
3. Turn key to ON position
4. Continue to hold the trip button until maintenance light disappears. This should take 15 to 20 seconds.

To add on to this answer, I just finished doing this on my 2007 Honda Civic...if you have an owner's manual, it tells you how to in there:

1. Turn key to II position.

2. Click select/reset button until the oil life is displayed on the digital screen.

3. Press and hold select/reset button for 10 seconds until the digital display starts to blink, then release button.

4. Press button again - holding for 5 seconds until the digital display resets to "OIL LIFE 100%"

it means nothing. It's only there to remind you of maintenance coming up. There's a switch under the steering column to reset it. Again it means NOTHING just a reminder to you. As long as you have kept up with regular maintenance don't worry about it. If you can't find the switch take it to your Honda dealer.
