Yes it is possible to change it yourself with min. tools and expertise however are you sure that the valve is the problem? does your idle fluctuate up and down all the time or only when it is cold? and 600.00 is rather expensive just for the diagnostic and replacement as it only takes 2 screws and a gasket or 2 hose clamps depending on which engine you have iac is the idle air control valve it allows a variable amt of air to enter the throttle valve when you are at idle or are using the a/c they rarely go out and sometimes they can just be cleaned but alot of shops misdiagnose when the actual problem is just a bad ground wire connection and sometimes it is a computer fault
