99 Ford Taurus Tune up-mechanic or dealer?

So A friend of the family owns a used car lot..
he accidentally had the car we bought sent to auction instead of detailed
so in a rush he got us a 99 ford taurus
we originally bought a 94

dont have much info on the car and the carfax didnt help much

The check engine light is on now and the low coolent light has been on since we got it, but the car isnt getting hot i tihnk it might be the sensor

but to my question...

do you think it would be cheaper to take the car to the dealer or a mechanic..
I'm leaning towards dealer cause i dont know of any trust worthy mechanics in my area and im nervous... any sugguestion?

the car is at about 197,00 miles... yeah alot i know
if runs good for the most part but the trans is a little iffy

what's cheaper and estimated price range?
 
Mechanics at the dealer know the car, they may fix it in half the time of ordinary shops, though ordinary shops take longer and where I live, they charged 2 to 3 times more than the dealer, and they never realize it.
