My car has been overheating for about 1 month I have put stop leak in it and hasn't done anything. If I fill it up it will run about 2 weeks and then start overheating a little and I will put more fluid in it. Well I changed the thermostat and it didn't do anything. Well I was driving on the interstate lastnight and turned on cruise control it started overheating a little and noticed when I turned the heater on even though it was plenty warm the air was freezing. Then the engine started clicking the more I accelerated the worse it got so I started to pull over (not a thud a light fast click) when i let off the accelerator it quit clicking. When I pushed on the brakes going about 50 to slow down and take the shoulder the car died. Smoke was coming out underneath the hood but the heat gauge wasn't even past middle - it didn't dump out any oil - or fluid of anykind. I had the oil changed about 1 month ago so I wasn't worried about low oil. I don't want to try to start it alot I just tried to start it after it cooled down and it makes a loud noise (almost like grinding) all the belts turn and I checked the timing belt all the pulleys are good. Are these problems even related?

check compression or if the spark plugs are flooded with water or anything. never put stop leak.... it clogs up your cooling system and stops up your heater core or radiator. check water pump remove it and looke if the pully moves right with the blades behind
