Just had clutch replaced, mechanic put in Castrol 5w20 oil in transmission. I asked him about it and told him that my manual stated that only Manual Transmission Fluid should be used and he said that is what the 5w20 is. Is this true? Is it the same thing because I know you can use motor oil for a temporary solution (manual says 10w30, or 10w40) but from my understanding transmission fluid is usually thicker than motor oil and 5w20 is pretty thin even as motor oil goes. I'm going to call Honda tomorrow. I've gone to this mechanic for years and he's the only one I trust, but I am wondering if he's made a mistake.
