I hit a curb which bent my lower control arm so much that the tire touched the fender. Anyways, I replaced all the control arms and things are looking pretty good.
My steering is twice as hard to turn left as it is to turn right. Always at the same spot. I looked at diagrams and am coming to the conclusion that the track gear or pinion gear is stripped or tweaked? I was wondering if this is even possible as my tie rods and ball joints seem fine. I get the same "hard" steering when I disconnect the tie rods and have no load on the steering system.
I am hoping for an answer so I can go forward and purchase a manual steering rack for my car.
A secondary question would be:
Do shops rebuild steering racks? And is it common for that track gear to bend or strip a gear?
Thanks in advance!
