I have a 1998 Ford f150 with a 4.6 windsor. It has about 220000 miles on it. I notice about a month ago it would make a slight poping sounds like a back fire when reving around 4k but only in first gear. The computer showed 3 misfires but no code. I replaced the fuel filter last week, runs better but still backfires. This morning I got some gas and now it wouldnt start after a few hours of being parked. The engine turns but it just wont start? Thinking its the fuel pump? I can barely hear it now when I turn the key on....Thanks!

what about fuel filter or a fuel system flush before buying a pump back fire is bad gas or not right gas or timeing thing if pump is bad they bad an dmost of time it dont run at all

hi
there cant be a relationship between poping sound and fuel pump.
high probably the engin has lost its timing.check the timing.

Never knew the way to test fuel pumps was to listen if they hum. Can you tell the fuel pressure with your ears according to the hum? If you can, I assume you can, compare that to the specs out of alldata and mitchell and go from there.
