I was having trouble with it locking itself in 4 high so i removed the transfer case motor and wired it up so it couldn't fall and drove the truck a couple of days this way.Its a utomatic with control on the dash.I had placed the transfer case shaft all the way to 2 wd by turning the shaft all the way to the left or drivers side and it would change itself back to one notch up which is traction control I guess,it drove fine until yesterday, it was raining and we were on the freeway doing 70 and all of a sudden i'm in neutral, free wheeling down the road.I rolled off the exit and had to lay in the water and get under it and the shaft to the transfer case was straight up and not in any gear.It had jumped and would not turn to the left again and go back into 2 wd so to get it to a safe place it would grind gears and drop into 4 low.I had it towed home from there and only drove it 1/4 mile at 20mph.My question is can I place the front end on jack stands and move the front wheels to get it out of 4low or do i need all 4 wheels off the ground?
Can you get it out of 4low and back to 2wd and cut the brown wire to the sensor that changes it inside the case?I think both the transfer motor and the GEM are bad.Is there a way to get it out of 4wd if the shaft won't move by hand???It was real easy before. The gears were still turning in the case even though it was in neutral on the shifter in the cab.(transmission)I do'nt have to have 4wd,2 is fine.Help I need to get this fixed before deer season in Nov..I know i could get another transfer case, transfer motor and the GEM in the dash but I'm willing to have just 2wd.I have to have work done on another car right now too and need to save some money. Thanks if you can address each question. All too often in here well meaning people only answer 1 part of your problem and you sit still scratching your head.I know theres mechcanics in here that know their stuff. Thanks again ahead of time.Oh where is the brown wire??by the case motor plug?
