98' Dodge neon shifting problems?

yesterday i was driving to tulsa from nowata and i get to tulsa and change gears to slow down and i get stuck in third gear and i couldnt get out of it. I pulled of into a parking lot and fiddled with it and was able to get it into neutral.. i am now able to change it from first to second to third and to fourth but cant put it into revearse or fifth gear.. what is the problem and a possible way to fix this
