I own a 97 Ford Explorer LTD w/ v8 eng. Last 2 times I've driven it short distances (< 1 mile) I park it and hear a hissing sound under the hood. I checked and it's coming from (if your facing the hood) the left front area, closer to the grill but sort of by the air filter. There is steam that's coming up from that area during the hissing sound. Once the car is off for ~15 mins, the hissing stops.

- despite the hissing, my car is not having trouble operating as usual; however, I thought it was idling low, but I could be wrong
- no fluid is leaking onto the ground
- the radiator fluid is halfway full

Could this be a problem with a tube leak? I called my mechanic friend and he said it *might* be that the radiator itself isn't getting any fluid despite the fluid tank being half full. Could that be it?

I'd like to drive it to my mechanic who has done all of the maintenance/repairs for it, but I've moved & he is now 20 miles away. Do you think I'll be able to drive the car that far without it breaking down?

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your help!
