97 dodge ram 1500,when put in to drive or reverse it sometime's sputter's

like it is going to stall? today it stalled on me at work,i had to give it gas when starting it and keep giveing it gas at stop sign's or it would stall? you could also smell gas after it had stalled? i think it might be sparkplug's? fuel filter? or even bad gas? i don't think it's my fuel pump for i hear that kick on everytime ty ahead of time
