So ill just give you all the symptoms i am currently aware of. I went offroading, nothing serious more like an old bush road with potholes that were full of cold water, sometimes a thin layer of ice. It seemed to be smoking at one point but i couldnt tell it may just may have been steam from the water. I stopped at one point and looked around the car to inspect things at this point there was an odd smell, like burning almost. I couldnt find anything unusual exept for that the smoke was coming from the under belly of the car, i looked under and there was a brownish liquid dripping out of a part of the exaust that had many machined wholes in it, not sure if that is supposed to be covered or not, this is also where the smoke was generating from. On my way home the temperature gauge went all the way up, and before this i had no more heat from the vents. Just before a stop light i got the battery warning light and as i stopped all the warning lights came on and the engine shut down. I tried to restart it but it turned over very slowly. After about 45 minutes and a cleaning of one of the break terminals it started but it didnt seem to want to idle, the revs would just fall so i managed to get home, and then it would idle, but not very well. I restarted after shutting it off and all electrical shut off. no warning lights or anything, so im going to now charge the battery and ill move it into the garage where i can work on it. Any help and ideas is apreciated, dont have money to replace much or get it worked on so ill need an affordable way if you can. It may be the alternator or a belt, coolant is full and oil is fine.
Started it again this morning, ran it for about twenty minutes then went around the block, went to back it into the garage and the tempurature was above normal which it never is so again the heat issue i guess and it shot off, went to restart and everything cut out again including all indicators.
Any idea how i can tell if the belt is bad? Ive looked at it and it is tight and dosnt seem to be in bad shape but im not sure what to look for really. Also my battery aperantly has a good charge i tested it, but when i turn the key all indicators and everything are off.
I also tried to check if it was maybe the thermostat and i couldnt find it, i looked in both ends of the upper radiator hose, its suposed to be at the engine block end i beleive but it isnt present. Is it possible the previous owner removed it for some reason? Does it even have one? It is a 2.7l 4cyl 4runner.
