'96 Honda Civic has soft clutch and won't go into gear unless forced.?

Car suddenly wouldn't go into first when a light turned red. Applied much more force than normal, and it went into first. Drove normally after that, except the clutch was really soft. Did not seem to have resistance almost all the way to the floor. There was slight resistance at the end. Stopped at lights after that, and had no issues. Parked my car, and when I tried to drive it again, it would not go into reverse or first. Clutch has not been slipping or anything. I haven't noticed any other issues. I don't know if I have a hydraulic or cable clutch. I read that the '96 Civic is hydraulic.

Is the '96 Civic's clutch going to be hydraulic?

What is wrong with the car?

How much would repairs likely cost?
