96' Dodge Neon speedometer freakout?

ok my car has done this in the past a few times where i turn it on and start to drive, then notice either the speedometer or the speedometer as well as the gas gauge and thermometer did not work. stayed at flat zero. i've tried hitting the dash which sometimes gets the needles to jump up but then go back down, i've also tried restarting the car which was successful once. well now it seems to sporadically do this while im driving, or the speedometer will even go crazy, bouncing up and down. i have no idea what to do. i've checked all my fuses, but other than that idk. it is always the speedometer, and rarely that with the other two messing up as well. they will always stay at zero whether the speedometer fluctuates or not. it will also sometimes fix itself when im driving.

any advice?

On each door there is a plunger switch. When the door is closed the plunger goes in and and when the door is open it goes out. After a car gets some wear on it, the plunger sometimes is not pushed in far enough and the car thinks it should not be running. This is sometimes instantaneous. To fix it, put several thicknesses of duct tape over the point where the plunger contacts the paint. Do this on all the doors.

remove the dash and look for a burnt spot on the back of the panel those was bad to do that on the older neon,s, you can sometimes solder them back together and make them work for a long time, its either that or a short in the circuit board on the back of the dash unit its self, good luck with it.
