96 Dodge, Intrepid, V6 Catalytic converter?

Throwing a 401 code, meaning its plugging up, can I cut it off and replace with regular tail pipe! Without throwing everything else out of wacko!
My economy won't allow replacement! HELP if you have any ideas!

wouldnt help the codes but would help the plugged part... really you can buy one and replace it by cutting is work but can do it
