...min); could it be oil pump? As the question says, it's a progressive engine knock. I can barely hear it when the vehicle first starts up, but I drive for a few minutes, and the knocking gets progressively worse. I tried driving it to the store once, and it drove with a dramatic loss in power. The times I've started it up since the knocking started, it starts up without a hitch. I'm worried about taking it to a shop, since I'm a student (with wife and kid) and do not have much money and I cannot afford to tow it to the nearest shop unless I know it's going to be an affordable repair. I'm thinking it might be the oil pump. Some things to note:
No oil in coolant, and vice-versa
No visible leaking (other than a small oil leak that's been there for a while, I've always kept on top of the oil levels though)
Knocking seems to be worst after I rev it up a little, then release the gas.
Knocking seems to almost go away when shift into reverse
