96 cadillac seville trunk motor is locked in down position. How can I get the

trunk to latch.? My Grandmother passed away and I drove the car back down to Florida from NC. The trunk motor was acting up, but it stayed in the up position and would latch. Eventually lowering the lid. However, I released the trunk latch by accident and now the motor will not raise the mechanism to accept the latch.
