Hello to all and thank you everyone for looking or answering the question. I have a 95 lincoln town car digital dash with 138,XXX miles on the odometer. I will be putting a new engine in it with 52,xxx miles on it. 84,xxx difference. I want to change the odometer so that the mileage is correct. I live in madison, wi area and i do understand that there are laws and its illegal in certain conditions such as if i was trying to sell the car with false mileage.
The engine i am purchasing is from a legit salvage yard about 6 different locations state wide and comes with 60 days gaurantee, paper certifiying the car and mileage that was on the dash when taken out. Also the vin # of the car it came out of.
Once the odometer meter has been changed i will be taking the information to the DMV. The vin # of my car and the car that the engine came out of, license plate of the car and to get it notarized so that the on the title or the main paper it will say that the odometer has been changed at 138,xxx so if sold in future buyer will know the body of the has 138,xxx and motor is 54,xxx. Any mileage added on will have to be added by the buyer to see how many miles the body has. I do not plan on selling the car anytime soon. It is one of my favortie cars out there i have invested 2,500 in stereo system and rims.
Does anyone know a trick or where i can go to get the odoemter changed. lincoln dealership told me it's illegal and blah blah blah that comes along with the speal. I was not able to get the plan of action i had after changed because the rude guy cut me off mid sentence.
Does anyone no how to change the odometer so that i can know the correct mileage on the engine. Do i have to take it to a special shop or what whould i have to do?
