I have replaced my older 3rd party stereo (head unit) with another new stereo. I simply matched the colors, but that didn't work. Using a multimeter I found that the red wire is 12v (as it should be), but the yellow wire is only 3v (it should be 12v). So I wired both the yellow wire and the red wire from the radio to the red wire on the car, and everything works fine. However - the red wire from the car is only 12v when the ignition is on, so the stereo loses the time, settings etc when I turn the car off. I know I need to use that yellow wire, but it doesn't work because it only runs at 3v, not 12v. Any ideas?
