There is a car for sale down where I live(DeSoto Missouri), a 95 ford Taurus for $700, but it needs a new catalytic converter. How much would this cost, and where could I find one that isn't really expensive? Or where could I find one that will help pass a quick inspection?
Yes, well I need a car, and my parents don't want to spend a whole lot of money on it. So this is about the best I can do right now.

Don't buy it.

It is the SELLER'S responsibility to make sure the vehicle passes emissions.

If they fail to do that, you can report them to the police for a fraudulent sale.

So, until they correct it, don't touch it.

This is for private sellers, dealerships, does not matter. Even if it is sold as-is, it MUST meet emissions requirements prior to sale. There are no exemptions, beside the vehicle being sold as a parts car. Which it obviously is not.
