I recently acquired a 95 Ford Probe.
The car ran fine at some point before I got it (when my dad owned it) other than a little oil burn off for 5 minutes after starting it.
Since I got it, it just won't start. There's no spark going to the plugs. The spark plug wires have no juice.
I've had a mechanic take a look at it, he did diagnostics and fitted it with a new distributor.
It started after that, but would sputter a lot, and die out if you put it in gear. (automatic)
After checking the plugs etc and tying several times, it stopped working completely.. again.
Diagnostics said the distributor was dead.
I replaced it with a used one from the wrecking yard. It ran again, but with the same symptoms as before, and then the distributor went bad again.
Anybody know what would cause a 95 Ford Probe to blow up distributors like this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bad timing is a possibility.
My dad was messing with it, and didn't bother to mark the position of the distributor.
Electronic ignition? I turn the key, the starter turns the engine over and sends spark to the cylinders starting the engine.
