Starting about 10 days ago, I began having trouble starting my 95 Ford Explorer. I got in the vehicle to go to work, and immediately noticed the radio had reset (as though the battery had been disconnected). As it was attempting to crank/turn over, it sounded very sluggish. I figured the battery had seen better days. However, I gave it a few more goes, and it dug deep and started up. I didn't know what to make of it, I figured the battery was going or worse case scenario it was the alternator. This continued for another week, struggling to start, radio resetting, but with a few tries it would start up.
Finally, when leaving work Thursday, it could no longer start on its own. After getting a jump from a coworker I went to an auto-parts store, where they tested the battery and alternator. Both checked out just fine. The worker at the store then suggested it could be a short of some sort, and when I asked if it could be the terminals, he said that was a good possibility. Though there was not a lot of corrosion visible, I cleaned everything up with a wire brush, applied some petroleum jelly and hoped I would be in the clear. No dice.
All the wires that I can see appear to be in good shape, and the ground from the battery looked good (though I admit I couldn't see it too well due to its location). After a friend jumped it yesterday, it drove fine for the day. It restarted with relative ease at various stops (stores). Yet this morning, I'm back to square one. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
