95 Ford Contour Transmission?

Our car needs a new transmission according to our mechanic. It will cost a lot of money and we're wondering if we should just look for a new car. How much should repairing that cost in your opinion? For the part? For the labor? Is it worth it?
 
Hmmm. I would say, if you can afford it, just buy a new car. I am guessing that the mileage is high and that this may not be the only thing that is or will go wrong. In addition, the value may not be very high.
The value of the car is approximately $1200 in good condition; but less because of the trans trouble.
 
that particular model is a pain to remove and install the trans.I would first of all get a second opinion,all mechanics are not knowledgeable or honest.however the car is getting some age so if it doesn't have sentimental value you probably should start looking for something a bit newer.
