For the last 4 months my 1993 Toyota 4Runner is having trouble starting when it has been driven around. When the car is cold or has cooled off, the car starts and runs perfectly fine. However, if I drive, turn it off and let it sit for less than an hour before using it again, the car will stall within 10 seconds of ignition. Yet if I let it sit and cool off, the car starts up fine.
Sometimes I can force the car to start by holding down the gas pedal until the RPMs stabilize. Sometimes I think I am smelling raw fuel afterwards. This leads me to believe the engine is flooding. However it is an EFI engine.
Any idea on what the problem is?
Check engine light is not on, oil levels are fine. Car does not stall once up and running.
I think my car runs slightly better when it has warmed up.
