I just purchased a ford Taurus that checked out good at a mechanic before purchase. There were some issues that were affordable that leaned more to the general maintenance side of things (alignment, tranny flush, fuel filter and will need sway bars eventually) I have not taken it yet for the alignment as I will need to buy tires as well and am saving up (next pay day looks like the day) But Fuel filter, Tranny Flush and a few other gen. Maint was done)
The car started acting up a few days ago, first it would kind of jerk while slowing or accelerating (like slowing to turn a sharp curve and accelerating after the fact) it would kind of sputter then it would behave perfect again....we can drive it around for a week or so with no symptoms then out of the blue it will do it again. even more rare, the car gets to about 30/35 mph and revs just a bit catches and no problems again.(this is only upon acceleration)
No idiot lights come on when it's acting up and it has seen 3 mechanics already for the initial inspection and tranny flush (where I was told the tranny was definitely due for a flush) and fuel filter change (and misc.) all mechanics were at the same shop 2 of the mechanics are family friends...He was very thourough about the inspection and showed us each and everything he was looking for.
Car is a 93 Ford taurus Wagon GL 3.8 (I think) V6 engine .....
other little knacks..
rear wiper doesn't work
rear defrost doesn't work
and stereo doesn't work (we have changed fuse but not stereo yet)
I should note that our average temps have been between -5 and - 30 since we bought the car, only 2 days of above 20 weather....roads have been in disrepair and bumpy, lots of ice, mud and deep snow.
