I currently have 2 5900 PVRs under rental. My contract is coming to an end within the next 2 months. I plan on buying an HD TV some point soon.

I hear many of the retention offers about getting either $300 off the 9242 or 1 year free rental. (Also debating on switching over to Videotron, but willing to stay with BEV for a good deal).

My Question: Now I know at the end of my contract I would tell them I would like to cancel. This point I assume they'd transfer me over to retentions. Showing that I currently have 2 SD PVRs (5900s), would they make the offer for a 9242? If not, how would I position the cancellation so that this offer would be made by the CSR?

"lol, I feel like a snake :)"

Wake up this morning (Fri Aug 15/08) and there's a flyer from Bell in the mailbox. It says:

Record forever. Any Bell tv receiver or pvr including HD 50% OFF
PLUS: for a limited time only, receive an additional $100 off an HD PVR 9242.

NOW ONlY $199
Regular: $599

I'm with Shaw but man this makes things tempting to switch. $199 for an HD PVR? Oy. :o

He will only get that if he threathens to disconnect... It sounds like many people on this forum are confusing PROMOTION and RETENTION OFFER! If he had a retention offer lately than he is less likely to get that. Agents in RETENTION DEPARTEMENT only have a certain amount per year they could give per client in retention goodies. That amount varies according to the client's programming package, equipement, payment history

Hi There,

I would like to get the 9242 but am trying to decide whether to Rent or Buy.
Current offers available:

- 1 year free rental of 9242 plus 6 months of free HD

or

- buy the 9242 for $499 plus get a $300 credit on my Bell bill.

I am a new customer. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?? Has anyone received any deals on the 2nd year of the term after renting for the 1st year??

As a Bell mobility customer, it has been my experience that new customers get all the deals, so I am thinking it might be better to buy.

Thanks in advance!
Liza

You can buy whithout signing a contract, but all rentals comes with a 1 year contract

And he will be stuck with a 2 years rental contract...
At the end of tha contract he would have paid 480$ for a machine that still doesn't belong to him. If he decides at that point to buy one he would have to invest another 600$ + tax on top of the 480$ he already gave during the rental period

Bell only offer 1 year warranty on the receiver

The store will probably ask you to pay for the extended warranty
If so, consider that Bell also offers DISH CARE which covers ALL you receivers AND remotes for 6$/month

In most case the warranty is also not transferable. Check with the store if you decide to sell it to see whether the warranty transfers or not

My TV doesn't have too many outputs so I had to unhook the component cable to be able to hook up the VCR in it. Since I was leaving soon after I started the film for the kids I hooked my receiver in HDMI again and SURPRISE!, it doesn't freeze anymore. Issue resolved! (for now at least!!!)

Hi!

I'm surprised to read you are considering Videotron, I taught they were only in Quebec and I read that you are in Ottawa, Ontario

You would have to tell them something like:"I will cancel and switch to Videotron cause I now have to buy an HD PVR and Vid

Hey BajaTango!!

It is definitely worth the switch! I have had the 9242 for 3 weeks now and absolutely love it!!! :D

Visions is currently offering the 9242 for only $188, so you might be able to get someone to price match it as Visions makes my skin crawl!!

I got it from a certain fast-forwarding big block electronics store for $499 and $50 for 4 years of a transferable direct-exchange warranty....and Bell says they will still give me $300 back :-D

P.S. I like your new signature, no doubt brought about by the recent 'drama' in another thread..lol

Ex Agent EV, no offense, but would you PLEASE stop posting 10 times for questions? You ARE allowed to have more than one quote in a post. This looks of spam.

why not rent it, if you haven't had that receiver before, you'll get to see how you like it etc. doesn't cost you anything plus you get some free programming for a few mths. you can always try to get them to extend the free rental later and in the meantime the receiver isn't going to go up in price, so you may get it cheaper down the road.

Well aint this a week of Deals.

Yesterday I purchased my first HDTV (picking it up this afternoon):

Got all 3 for $1999 :D

Then this morning I contacted Bell ExpressVu to get one of those lovely retention offers you all mentioned. I was able to get:

- Free rental of 9242 for a 12 months
- 30% off Programing for 12 months
- Free HD Programming for 6 months

Can't wait to enjoy the HD Experience!!!

"Thanks to everyone in this thread :D"

Sorry, one last part for the Visions deal, it initially costs $588, then you get a $300 programming credit, so eventually costs $188 - the best deal I have seen so far.

Thanks for your suggestions :) Will keep it in mind.

To the left of this it shows I'm from Ottawa, Canada (Gatineau Area). Meaning I am in the Ottawa area, but on the Gatineau side (which is Quebec, where Videotron is serviced).

"Thanks!"

Thanks for the help!! I bought the 9242 and had it installed on the weekend. I honestly don't know how I lived this long without it!

I have no need for the dish as I am in a condo building - anyone know of a reasonable price I could ask for it??

Thanks a million!!

Me! I have a 9200 and a 9242... I much prefer the 9200!!! I can hook my 9200 in HDMI and obtain good sound and perfact picture quality, but can not do that with my 9242, it freezes all the time!!!
