i have a 1990 dodge dakota, new battery had alternator checked, said it was ok. volts fluctuate on guage. battery keeps dying wont start, radio turns off and on. whats the problem. please help

Hi Jim , Try taking off the neg terminal and see if there is any power loss by making a makeshift meter. A 12 volt bulb , you know ,one to the neg post and the other to the ground wire. If it lights up you have a short to deal with. lol or a tester

i would replace the alternator anyway and have the new battery checked ( possiblity it could be bad) if that doesnt work then you have either a short or a wire grounding out the entire system... had a 1986 buick skylark that did the same thing back in high school.replacing the alternator fixed the problem though
