Hey guys im stumped on this one, when im driving down the road, i can hear a knocking/tapping sound, lets say i need to pass someone, i press the gas rpms increase the knocking/tapping sound get a little louder and beggins to have a dull/high pitch hum sound until i let off the gas. here is the kicker i decided to through truck in nuetral while cruising and rev it, no knocking sound or high pitch hum, put it back into gear knocking starts and hums if i increase my speed. Any Ideas what this may be.
Another thing, I just had a new Distributor put in and the intake resealed, I have noticed that when i start my truck first thing it will idle at about 1500rpms eventually drop to 1200rpms and then to 1000rpms all this process takes some where in between 7 and 10 minutes, is that to long for the truck to idle high before calming down? Things done, new IAC, super cleaned the TBI new base gasket, new Coolant temp sensor, new distributor <--Fixed my stalling issue timed to 0 factory specs. new o2 senors. Any Advice on this?
Edit: I didnt change the TPS since I was told I'd have to set it correctly, but since I didnt have a check engine light on, that means the TPS is still working.
@Monkey - the tapping/knocking noise is increases with engine rpm, lets say if im slowly and gradually acceleration its just a knocking/tapping, but lets say im passing someone i give it gas it downshifts <i believe is the correct word engine rpms shoot to about 2800 to 3000 and that when the whining humming starts and will stop if i let off the gas and will go back to a knocking/tapping sound. I hope im explaining to which it can be understood......went to a pretty steep incline today and let the work the truck up the hill just normal tapping/knocking, second test 1/4 way up I gave it enough gas to downshift and speedup to get up hill faster without letting the truck upshift thats when the humming/whining noise started about 2500-3000 rpms until i let off the gas and went back to knocking/tapping after letting it upshift.
