9 week old shiba inu/border collie crate training + whining?

I recently got a 9 week old male shiba inu/border collie cross puppy. He's got the looks of a shiba inu and the personality of a border collie. One problem is his whining. I'm strict but loving with him. So I never give in to it. But he whines when he's in the crate all the time. I give him a treat, piece of clothing that smells of me, blanket that smells of his mum and a small cuddle. If I ignore him he gives in after a while. But I was wondering, when he whines should I tell him in a loud voice "NO" or should I just completely ignore him? When did your puppy stop whining?

Ignore it. Even negative attention is attention and it'll take longer for him to give up.

But keep in mind he's only 9 weeks old and you can't expect much yet. Did you introduce the crate gradually or just put him in it? Crate training is a gradual process, you don't just put the puppy in the crate, walk away and leave it for a few hours.

I introduce mine to the crate gradually, feed them in the crate for a month or two, and they're ONLY in it at night or when I can't watch them. The whining stops within a week.

HI,

Well all pups are different obviously but my dog was whining a lot too. I told him "NO" in a loud voice and after a while he quit whining all together. It also helped if I tapped the cage when I said no. But you have to be persistent and reward it if it does not whine. Hope that helps. (this may take quite a while but it is worth it, its kinda like potty training, long and annoying lol)
