okay i have an 1998 883 sportster that has an oil leak on the top end rear rocker box gasket. I can not find the one I need, I was told it was only 6 bucks for the gasket. but i cant figure out what gasket it is i need.

i had a 1999 XL883C, just get the rocker cover gasket set. cause your gonna have to replace them all on that side anyways. especially if its the bottom leaking like mine was.

Mine leaked oil to, most of them do. Go to your HD dealer and get the metal gaskets. Mine hasn't leaked since. Sorry I can't tell you the part number. But HD dose make them. The parts guy, will know what you need.

The reason the paper gasket blows out. Is because, you didn't warm your bike up properly. With the metal gaskets it's not as big a deal.

You remove the TOP cover on the rear head, then you remove the next set of bolts, not the HEAD bolts but the ones that go through the part of the cover below the top, this is whats leaking.

The gasket is a typical paper sort of thing, the replacement is a thin aluminum or other soft metal.

Did them on a Sportster and a Buell, I decided if HD couldn't make a damn gasket by 2000 I wouldn't buy them anymore. You need a shop manual, its a big help.
