Ok, this may seem rather stupid to many of you, but whatever. I have never, ever, gotten less than a perfect grade on any paper I have done. Until this class, which is my first class as a Senior in college (I graduate in June 06) on Employement law. Apparenetly, my organization and style were perfect scores, but my content was 58/70, because there is a lot more to the law than what I understand, and I didnt fully explain the appeals process. Bleah. this is fucking retarded. I am not disputing the grade, because I know I probably did miss quite a bit. But why dont they just list this stuff point by point? Why all the crap jargon that I have to look up all the time? And why am I a business major and not an english major? gggrrrrrrrrrrr. Im so frustrated with this, its not even funny. Good thing is, that it is only the first paper of the term, and I have three more that I guess I will have to try harder on. But still, it kind of makes me sad. Like im not smart enough.

OK I feel better now, thanks for listening, and have a great day!

Well, first off... ummm.... screw you? An 88% is the worst you've ever gotten? I hate you... nahhh... just jealous really.

They don't list it item by item for a few reasons:
1. gading a paper sucks. Your prof (or his trained monkey of a PA) has to grade a whole bunch of them so it takes a LONG time to do a line item thing.
2. It makes you think. People like you (as opposed to slackers like me who'd shit with joy for an 88%) will go and figure out how you could have done better.

It's important in the business world to write well, be well researched and use good organization. Mostly because nobody will read beyond the first page of any document anyway so you have to get it all in durring that one page and then be able to back it up in person. (Because it's easier for them to pester you about shit they could read on the second page.)

That or the prof is a dillweed that didn't want grading your paper to interfere with his pot smoking study/hobby. (I had a few of those professors too)

Don't worry about an 88% because if you have any other grades above a 90 you will still get the A as a final grade, and that is all that really matters. I don't know if your employer is going to look at your grades, but I'm sure that he will not be check to make sure that you did good on every single essay paper lol.

And if you were wondering, yes, I slack a lot, but I get good grades, the profession that I want to go into doesn't require mathematics, or english, well besides being able to spell a client's name right....

Whoohoo for graduating soon. Moving on.

DustinzGirl, your professor is doing this because he/she sees your potential. He/she is trying to motivate you to do the very best that you can. I know it sucks right now, but that's just your professor's way of telling you that he/she knows that you can do better.

I had a douche of an English teacher, and on the first paper I did, I got a C. I did every thing he asked. All the prewriting bullshit, outlines, blah blah blah, and I got a C. Next paper I did like 45 minutes before class and got an A, which told me that my teacher was a retard, and graded on nothing more than opinion, so don't rock the boat too much, and you should do OK. I didn't exactly kiss ass, but I didn't call him out on his all to often random acts of stupidity either.

I have never scored lower than a 90 percent on any paper I have done. Math excluded, because math is the devils own handiwork.

I know these grades dont mean shit when I graduate. But, my work reimburses me a percentage based on my gpa. So, they mean something now.

Thanks!

and yes, my prof is a duche

so there ARE genius among us after all...
Math isnt that hard, and the devil isnt so bad, and maybe hell is freezing over, fuck what I said... Math sucks, so do the rest of the disciplines... discipline suck, except if you are a Ninja... but thats another story...

Yeah... you'd like to keep believing that wouldn't you. Right up till the day you fill out an application and they ask for your college GPA.

Who asks that question? The US Federal Government (good pay, great bennies, excellent employer as long as you're a civillian) The Washington Group International. Certain departments at Crucial Technology. Parts of Hewlett-Packard. CitiGroup. CapitalOne.

Most jobs don't. Quite a few do.
