88 Honda prelude -- car will start then goes dead immediately then won't crank

again for 2-3 hours...any ideas Car acts like it is out of gas but has plenty, If you try to crank it immediately after goes dead will turn over but will not start. You have to leave it alone for 2-3 hours and then it cranks like normal and runs good.
 
we need more info auto or standard ? it could be a voltage regulator . is it carborated or injected ?
