the guy before me said it got around 30, i have changed the fuel pump due to previous problems, but i have yet to get over 10 mpg and cant afford to drive it anymore, what could this be?

take it into a shop and have them re calibrate your carburator. it sounds like you are running really rich. the guy that owned it before probably tried to do it him self and screwed everything up. take it in that truck will be like night and day.

Sounds like previous owner gave you a story (I have never seen a 4cyl ranger get over twenty)...
and present driver has a heavy foot...

Rangers are too heavy for a 4cyl....
