82 ford f-150 is not grabbing any gears.?

my tranny fluid is blackish and needs a change, but is this why it doesn't grab

Transmission fluid should be red and never be blackish. Even burnt fluid will be brown, not black. Its possible that the color is coming from metal particles from destroyed bands or plates.
