80's/'90's Family movies-weren't they good?

I know that perhaps I'm biased here-I did grow up during the '90's, after all-but weren't there a lot of good family movies during the '90's? Last night I was watching one of my favourites, Fly Away Home. Other favourites I enjoyed back then included Jim Carrey's early classics-Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, etc-the Sister Act films, Jumanji, the list goes on.

I have to say that the '80's was a good decade for U/PG rated films, too-Big was one of the first movies I ever saw at the cinema. Back To The Future and E.T. were also classics.

Does anyone agree with me?

I have to agree they are fab!!
Home alone, Dunston checks in, Gettin even with Dad, loved em all!!
You can still sometimes catch some of the lesser known classics like Kidcop and Treehouse hostage on sky movies (usually the family channel)

Dont think the films are as good anymore, its all Hillary Duff or Lynsey Lohan and are a bit crappy. All about dating and falling in love, cant beat a bit of childish slapstick comedy

Can't not mention The Goonies or The 'Burbs! Those good old funny family romps really do seem to be gone now, although there have been a couple of decent recent attempts. The JLC/LL Freaky Friday remake was fairly entertaining - can't touch much of the 80s and 90s stuff, though.

I've always had a soft spot for those Uncle Buck/The Great Outdoors/Harry & The Henderson type movies. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats Hocus Pocus - still to this day love that film.

Don't know what it is but it holRAB a special place in ma' heart :D

Well if you're gonna make statements like "nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats blah blah blah" then expect to get called on it.
:)

The Burbs is highly underrated with a fine cast even if the story is very predictable.

Watched The Goonies on Sunday which unlike many 80's movies holRAB up very well and has not dated.

Planes,Trains & Automobiles is still a very entertaining, funny and endearing movie.

Vice Versa is another highly entertaining movie which holRAB up very well next to Big.

I saw Masters Of The Universe (Dolph Lundgren) the other week for the first time in years and it's nowhere near the bad movie fans and critics make it out to be.
It's kiRAB sci-fi but it's good kiRAB sci-fi and a quite entertaining 1 & half hour film at that with some ok writing for it's type even though Dolph is as wooden as ever.

Movies back in the 80's were far more entertaining than the stuff that gets made today.

Goonies is a prime example of pure 80's gold and who can beat Home Alone for the 90's.

There are some great family movies from the 80's/90's. Some of my favourites are -

ET
The Princess Bride
The Goonies
Back To The Future
Home Alone
Baby's Day Out
The Parent Trap
Hocus Pocus

And you can't forget the Disney classics from this time -

Beauty and the Beast
Toy Story
Lion King
Aladdin
